Skin care tips for summer

The heat is on! And indoors, it is finally off. And your skin is feeling less like that of an alligator. But sun and heat cause stress to the delicate and often already compromised capillaries in the face so it's just as important to protect the skin's barrier in the summer as in the winter. It's a good idea for everyone to keep their skin protected but for folks out there with sensitive, sensitized or Rosacea skin types it's even more crucial.

The most important thing someone with sensitive skin needs to consider is that the sun causes a lot of inflammation. Although a sensitive skin type may feel more hydrated in the warmer, more humid weather, heat and sun exposure are still threats.

Summer skin care tips:
  • Use a moisturizer with an SPF of at least 30 but 50 is ideal. And make sure to reapply often - about every hour if you're going to be out in the sun all day or in and out of water.
  • Wear a hat!
  • Use a hydrating mask at least once a week to make sure you're maintaining the water content of your skin. Dermalogica's Skin Hydrating Masque is an amazing drink of water for your skin
  •  Go easy on the exfoliation, try using a serum that contains lactic acid which gently exfoliates but also hydrates like Dermalogica's Renewal Booster.

Injury prevention 101

Summer in Chicago means riding bikes, gardening, walking, and playing sports. Don’t let an injury keep you from enjoying the most active season. Stretching, hydrating, and regular massage are the best ways to keep your muscles performing properly, and pain free. Read some tips to prevent injury from Thairapy’s licensed massage therapist Chris.

One of the best way to avoid injury is to stretch! A simple stretching routine should take about four minutes to complete, and can prevent months of pain and recovery. Stretching will not only decrease chances for injuries but also helps with muscle fatigue.

Other ways to prevent injury during activity

  • Stay hydrated with water to avoid cramping of muscles due to dehydration.
  • Don't remain in one position for a long period of time.
  • Regular massage is a great way to recover from activity to prevent injury. Massage helps with joint mobility, muscle fatigue, and muscle recovery.

If you are unsure of what kind of massage to get, Chris can help you choose. Call Thairapy Plus today ( 773-248-5353) , and start feeling better.
